Photodynamic Therapy & Intensive Acne Programs

Photodynamic Therapy is a state-of-the-art approach to acne treatment. It involves the use of lasers to activate Levulan that is applied to the skin. Medspa909's regimen combines Vibradermabrasion and PDT to maximize improvement in skin texture, smoothness and blemishes.

Using a combination of laser technologies, as well as aesthetic treatments and Photodynamic Therapy therapy, our medical staff will design an individualized acne treatment program specific to your needs. Our treatment regimens have proven to be quite effective in removing acne, maintaining clearer looking skin and prevent troublesome scarring.

Additional Information About Photodynamic Therapy

What is Acne?
Acne is a term used to describe plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and even the upper arms. Nearly all people between the ages of twelve and seventeen have at least an occasional whitehead, blackhead, or pimple. For others though, acne is more serious problem. More than 40 percent of adolescents have acne severe enough to require medical treatment.

What should I expect?
Acne therapy involves a series of pain-free exposures to a high-intensity light. The exposure sessions take place once or twice a week to kill acne-causing bacteria. FDA approved and is used to treat mild to moderate cases of acne, common among teenagers, but also seen in people in their twenties and thirties.

The equipment is so safe that it can even be used to treat pregnant patients. Some patients who have undergone acne light therapy are acne-free for up to two years after 10 treatments. Other patients need occasional treatments for flare-ups.

Safety and side effects:
The advantages of acne therapy are rapid treatment of acne lesions all over the face, no scarring, no surgical excisions and no systemic side effects. The skin appears refreshed and younger following these treatments. We advise 2-3 treatments at 2 to 3 week intervals to obtain optimal results.
